Patterns on Canvas Series
The Pattern series developed naturally on canvas because I want you to experience the texture of collage without the barrier of glass. The clothing patterns are printed with lines, words and symbols, which provide a structural component to the composition. I often adhere the patterns backwards so you recognize the words as language but don’t linger over the content. The words become more of a whisper. The music sheets are used for their lyrical connotation as well as a linear element. The color of the pattern paper is a significant. Its parchment color gives the work a sense of age, history and patina. To this I juxtapose vivid color and intuitive marks, creating a balance of old and new. The series comments on work “made by hand” as quickly becoming a lost art.
