Sandy Series

Images from 2012 Storm

Living on Sandy Hook Bay in New Jersey gave me a personal stake in global warming. Superstorm Sandy had a devastating effect on our neighborhood, which still suffers from the damage today.

The images in this series are a combination of actual newspaper photos collaged with painted mulberry paper. The mulberry paper is painted to resemble mud. It is hard to tell where the image stops and the paint begins. This seamless merging of the actual event (the newspaper image) and the turmoil (through the paint) begins to capture the experience of the storm's destruction both physically and emotionally.
